This series of diagrams attempt to sum up my design process and define my key concepts. Firstly I considered the accommodation and began massing studies. I wanted the building to have a strong presence but be sensitive to the context. I proposed a three storey building with a basement theatre space. The roof profile was influenced by a combination of the neighbouring residential terraces and the need for north light to penetrate key spaces. I designed a simple plan for the building that could essentially be implemented on each floor. I divided the plan so that the smaller accommodation would face onto the residential areas and the larger spaces onto the carpark and Colston Hall. I then considered dance studios specifically. Flexibility is key in active spaces so I studied how this could be achieved.
