Aarhus Drawing of the Year
Below is my entry for the Aarhus School of Architecture and the Danish Arts Foundation joint competition 'Drawing of the Year'. The brief was to create a drawing that 'should focus on architecture's ambition to take an active part in changing our society and ask how architecture can contribute to the transformation of the physical environment.' With the drawing we were asked to provide a short text of 50 words to explain the concept behind the drawing.
'Matter cannot be created, only transformed or converted. We view architecture sitting atop the landscape; conveyed as an addition. Architecture is in fact an addition and subtraction of matter, never more than an extrusion. This drawing shows our canvas, the landscape, is running out. Extrude with care.'
The drawing was selected to be a part of the Drawing of the Year: The Book, which is currently on exhibition at the Aarhus School of Architecture's new main library. A video showing the contents of the book can be viewed below.
