POPS, New York City
POPS provide an open and inviting space for New Yorkers to gain some respite from the bustling city streets. POPS have their origins within the cities zoning requirements that have helped to shape NYC's infamous skyline - the SET BACK.
To illustrate what this means for the public it felt appropriate for POPS signage to become a call to action, inviting the people of NYC to SIT BACK.
The logo shows a person sitting back with their hands behind their head; relaxing. Subtly, the letters that form the POPS acronym shape the logo. Whilst this may not be instantly recognizable, it helps to form a memorable, playful symbol with strong visual links to this public space initiative and the New York City zoning requirements that has helped to create and define such spaces. The logo could potentially become a source of interaction as people explain the concept and form to others.
